The 3rd round of the German Nationals Qualification was held in Singen on June 25/26, 2005. Over 60 drivers entered this race, and the track was small and technical. The race was organized together with BA WU cup.

I entered this race together with my teammate and good friend Alex Stocker. There were also other good drivers like Markus Fost or Ralph Helbing. The qualifications were for two categories – modified and stock. The BA WU cup had four categories – modified, stock, gentleman class, and junior class. When I arrived on Friday afternoon at Singen, I was surprised at the size of the track, especially the width which was nearly 2 meters.

After the first runs I was very happy with the handling of my car, because I had grip and also enough steering that most other drivers were lacking. On Saturday the weather was cloudy but after 10:00AM it was hot and sunny again. The schedule called for free practice and at 1:00PM the 3 qualification runs began.

I won the first two qualifications over Alex Stocker and in the second run I made the fastest lap of the race. Alex was not very happy with the results, so he decided after the second qualification run to change setup, he used the same setup as me and won the third qualification run, one tenth ahead of me and also made the fastest lap of the race.

Alex dominated in BA WU cup, in which he raced only two qualification runs from six, but this was enough for TQ. The stock category was dominated by Thomas Gunsel with his XRAY T1FK’05 for De Michelle Mario and Daniel Sartorius who raced for the first time with a XRAY T1FK’05. On Sunday the schedule called for another 3 qualification runs. Again I won the first two and Alex won the last. In the last run, Markus Fost with his RDX was also fast but in the last minute his diff went wrong.

I won the first final run in modified over Alex and Markus. In the first corner, Alex unwittingly crashed into my car but after two minutes I was again in second place, then in the last lap Alex waited for me and let me pass him as compensation for the crash. After the start in the second final run, Markus was second but Alex contacted Markus and afterwards Markus' car was off into the grass for a while. In third minute my motor started to skip and after the battle with Alex for first place I was not able to hold the first position and I ended second. Markus was again third and he was angry at Alex so in the third final run he hit Alex in the first corner out of track, and than he also hit me when I was on other side of the track. Markus hit my motor and after 5 laps I had to retire from the race. This last final won Ralp Helbing over Alex. The overall winner was Alex over me and Ralph Helbing; Alex and myself had the same points but they also counted the third final from which I retired.

Alex won the BA WU cup, who won second and third final. As in the first final he had trouble with his motor, and he retired the first final run. In stock class the winner was Thomas, who won the first and third finals.

Summary:

This race was entered also by drivers from Schweiz, since Schweiz is only a few kilometers from Singen. I was very happy to see that most drivers raced the XRAY cars, and also two other drivers ordered new XRAY T1FK’05 cars at this race.

This track was very similar to the track in Denmark, where this year's European Championship will be held. I had the same setup as at the warm-up and the car was great!

The whole weekend the weather was very hot 36° and the track tremperature was over 50°.

Regards Martin
